Our Approach

FAQs

  • Rehumanising democracy means restoring human dignity, authentic relationships, and ethical values to the center of governance. Instead of treating democracy as purely a set of institutions and procedures, we recognize it as fundamentally about relationships between people. We help leaders develop the inner capacities—authentic presence, genuine care, consistent integrity—that make democratic relationships possible.

  • Contemplative democracy integrates contemplative practices like deep listening, ethical discernment, and mindful decision-making into democratic governance. This includes practices like structured listening sessions before major decisions, periods of reflection during policy development, conflict resolution that seeks understanding rather than victory, and leadership formation that develops wisdom alongside technical skills.

  • The Benedictine tradition offers profound insights that translate across religious and secular contexts. The Rule of St. Benedict emphasizes deep listening, community discernment, servant leadership, and accountability to higher principles. These practices can be adapted for secular settings while respecting religious diversity.

  • Not at all. Our programs are designed to be accessible regardless of personal religious beliefs. While we draw wisdom from contemplative traditions, our focus is on practical skills for authentic leadership and effective governance that benefit anyone committed to serving others with integrity.

  • We offer several partnership models:

    • Unrestricted General Support: Core funding that allows us maximum flexibility to respond to emerging needs and opportunities

    • Program Sponsorship: Supporting specific initiatives like the Democratic Narrative Index, Fellowship Program, or Narrative Healing Labs

    • Leadership Development Sponsorship: Funding scholarships for current or emerging political leaders to participate in our Contemplative Leadership Development programs

    • Research Partnerships: Co-funding specific research projects or publications in areas of mutual interest

    • Innovation Grants: Supporting pilot programs and experimental approaches to democratic renewal

Foundations can also sponsor current elected officials, senior civil servants, or emerging political leaders to participate in our formation programs. This can be done through:

    • Direct Scholarships: Full or partial funding for individual participants

    • Cohort Sponsorship: Supporting mixed groups of leaders from specific regions or contexts

    • Cross-Party Initiatives: Funding programs that bring together leaders from different political parties

    • Emerging Leader Tracks: Supporting rising stars before they reach senior positions. We work with foundations to ensure appropriate selection criteria and impact measurement.

  • While headquartered in the UK, we work globally through partnerships with local organizations. We can adapt our approach to local cultural and political contexts while maintaining core contemplative principles.
