Each donation directly funds:

  • Development and deployment of the Democracy Discourse Index across 20+ pilot countries.

Your donation helps build the Democracy Discourse Index (DDI). By measuring the quality of public conversation across billions of digital interactions in real-time, the DDI provides policymakers, civil society, and citizens the advanced notice needed to intervene while renewal remains possible.

  • Fellowship programmes combining moral leadership development with democratic renewal expertise.

Your support funds fellowship programmes that combine contemplative practice with policy expertise, developing a new generation of democratic leaders who understand that democracy thrives through the quality of human relationships, not merely the mechanics of governance.

  • Leadership Formation Initiatives for emerging democratic and civil society leaders in contemplative leadership.

Your donation helps support the development of online training modules and immersive retreats that integrate contemplative practices with strategic policy work. The retreats create space for the deep reflection and moral clarity that ethical leadership requires. Your donation also supports ongoing contemplative practice communities and tools.

 FAQs

  • The GCRD is funded through a diverse mix of sources, including fee-for-service activities (such as training programmes and short courses, consulting, etc), donations from philanthropic foundations and individuals, grants, and contracts. As a not-for-profit organisation, any surplus revenue we have is reinvested into the centre’s work to expand its impact.

  • Benedictine tradition emphasises listening, humility, communal responsibility, silence, and spiritual discernment. These practices nurture integrity, patience, and moral leadership—qualities democracy badly needs. They inform everything we do: from Narrative Labs to retreats to our values in research and governance.

  • No. GCRD is fiercely nonpartisan. We work across divides to rebuild shared values and integrity. Our mission is not ideology, but humanity.

  • Contemplative Democracy integrates inner practices—mindfulness, reflective pedagogies, attentional awareness—with democratic theory and public life. It is not just what we do but who we become: more present, more attentive, more capable of listening and collective moral imagination.

  • Fellows are expected to engage in a year-long project, attend retreat(s), mentor others, and produce a public facing deliverable (report, brief, or media piece). Distinguished Fellows also guide collective strategy and serve as ambassadors for GCRD’s mission.
