Dr. Douglas Barry

Dr. Barry is an educator and strategic communication expert whose career spans continents and causes. He has played a leading role in the creation and development of numerous community service organisations focused on informal dispute resolution, gun violence prevention, immigrant rights, and support for survivors of sexual assault.

He has taught at institutions including the University of Alaska, the American University of Nigeria, Georgetown University, and the U.S. International University of Africa, and currently serves as a faculty member at the George Washington University. His international experience includes extensive work in China and Russia, and time spent living in Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

Dr. Barry holds a doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University, and is the author of Smart Rabbits: American Small Businesspeople, Trade Wars, and the Future of U.S.–China Relations.

With his global perspective and deep passion for bridging education, communication, and social impact, Dr. Barry continues to play a vital role in advancing GCRD’s mission to build more human-centred and resilient democracies.
